Supporting teachers, school leaders & the wider education community in delivering quality teaching thus enhancing learners’ potential.

Overarching Objective

To support individual teachers, schools, and the wider education community of Co. Donegal in all areas of professional educational learning.

Donegal Education Support Centre is one of a national network of 21 full time Education Support Centres. The Centre is directly funded by the Department of Education & Skills (DES) through the Teacher Education Section (TES) under the National Development Plan and works with TES to ensure the professional learning needs of our teachers and school leaders are supported.

The Donegal Education Support Centre also coordinates and manages the part-time Education Centre located in Gort a’ Choirce.

The Centre promotes partnership in education by providing access to professional development, training and support for teachers, SNAs, B.O.M.s and the wider education community.

The Centre works closely with the county’s 176 primary and 27 post primary schools with a teaching population of over 3,000.


Centre Objectives:

  • Facilitate and administer national, regional and local professional learning programmes
  • Deliver educational seminars supporting teaching, learning & assessment
  • Support and work with national support services
  • Identify & meet the professional learning needs of teachers, school leaders, ancillary staff and
    B.O.M. members both at individual staff and whole school levels
  • Support the development and facilitation of technology in education
  • Deliver quality local courses throughout the county
  • Facilitate the showcasing of current good practice in teaching, learning and assessment
  • Support the teaching of specific subjects through subject Teacher Professional Networks (TPNs)
  • Work with education partners (both locally and nationally)
  • Provide meeting venues for shared learning and reflection on professional practice.
  • Develop local expertise in the area of facilitation and delivery


The Donegal Education Support Centre is the national administrative base for the Oide Droichead Induction Programme for Newly Qualified Teachers (NQT)
