What is LEGO Spike Essential?

LEGO Spike Essential is an educational robotics kit designed for young learners, typically in elementary school. It is part of LEGO Education’s SPIKE series, aimed at promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning through hands-on, playful activities. What is LEGO Education WeDo 2.0?

LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 is a hands-on, primary science solution that develops science practices in the classroom through a robot-based learning system. The unique solution combines the LEGO® brick, classroom-friendly software, engaging and standards-based projects which inspire every student’s desire to discover the world around them.

With WeDo 2.0, students will explore, create, and share their scientific discoveries as they build, program, and modify projects. As they collaborate, they deeply engage with science, engineering, technology, and coding, sparking a love for experimentation and investigation. What is a Bee Bot?

Bee-Bot is an exciting programmable floor robot, designed specifically for use by young children. This colorful, easy-to-operate, and friendly little robot is a perfect tool for teaching sequencing, estimation, problem-solving, and just having fun!

Coding Ireland also have lessons available in Bee-Bot Basics - Forward and Backward Fun. In this lesson, you will guide your students in exploring the Bee-Bot, a programmable robot. The lesson involves introducing the Bee-Bot, conducting number strip and colour-based activities, demonstrating Bee-Bot operations, and facilitating student practice. The students will learn to give commands, clear the code, and engage in a group activity. The lesson concludes with a wrap-up reinforcing the skills learned.

Robot Construction System

VEX IQ is based on plastic, snap-together pieces specifically designed to build highly functional robots. This system doesn’t require any prior knowledge in robotics. Students can easily build their first robot, and the wide variety of additional parts means that they can build anything they imagine as they continue to learn. Every kit includes a hand tool to make assembly and disassembly easy for small hands.

Take a step back in time

The Bronze Age Handling Box Project arose an ambition at the National Museum of Ireland to enable young people to learn about the past through the study and handling of objects.

It enables young people to work as historians and archaeologists and encourages them to engage with the past in a thought-provoking and fun way. Using an enquiry-based approach, it provides opportunities to develop literacy, language and problem solving skills and appeals to a range of learning styles and ability levels.
