Digital Storytelling & Film Making - Supporting Creative Writing
This summer course will introduce teachers to the skills involved in the process of film-making and how it can support teaching and learning while also developing literacy skills. Each module is structured to encourage a hands-on approach to learning.
Exemplars of good practice will support participants work on a range of directed tasks and activities using a variety of film-making technologies (hand-held camera devices, software), as tools to develop pupils’ literacy skills. Teaching, learning and effective classroom strategies will be enabled through group discussion on classroom implementation as well as the sharing of ideas, strategies and good practice. This course will draw on the film making process of creative writing for film, scriptwriting, Storyboarding, shot lists as well as film capture and editing to promote literacy in a school. It is hoped that all participants will be able to prepare a short film during the course.
