Nature's Classroom: Science & Art In The National Park (Glenveagh National Park) Teaching and Learning Through Nature
Immerse yourself in the rich landscapes of one of Ireland’s National Parks and discover how nature can become a powerful classroom. This inspiring course connects biodiversity with the curriculum, supporting a whole-school approach to meaningful, outdoor learning.

Each day blends expert input with hands-on experience, including engaging talks, guided walks, creative workshops, and collaborative activities—all designed to deepen your understanding and bring learning to life.

Throughout the week, you will:
  • Explore woodland and peatland habitats and their unique ecology
  • Build confidence in identifying Irish plants and animals, with a special focus on native irish woodlands
  • Use visual arts to celebrate and embed learning about nature
  • Develop skills to plan and lead effective outdoor and creative learning experiences
  • Discover how digital technology can enhance nature-based learning
  • Learn how to incorporate citizen science into your teaching
  • Create and maintain a nature journal to support reflection and inquiry

Please note: As this course involves extensive outdoor activities, participants should come prepared with suitable clothing and footwear.

Summer Course Booking Policy
- Lunch will be provided daily.
- Our summer courses are booked on the condition that the course fee is non-refundable.
- Unfortunately, if you wish to cancel your place on one of our courses or are unable to attend the course, we are not in a position to refund fees.
- County Donegal Education Support Centre reserves the right to cancel a Summer Course where there are not sufficient numbers to run the course.
- In the event of the Centre having to cancel your course, you will be offered an alternative course or offered a full refund.
- In line with DES Circular 0037/1997, participants attending Summer Courses accrue entitlements as follows: 

 

  • Full Attendance (20 Hours): 3 EPV Days
  • 4 Days Attendance (16 Hours): 2 EPV Days
  • No EPV days will be awarded for less than 4 days attendance
