Overview
This online summer course* is aimed at Principals, Deputy Principals, Digital Learning Coordinators, Digital Learning team members and emerging leaders in primary schools.

Through real-world examples of effective practices, insights from experts and drawing on key policies and guidelines, you will learn how to effectively manage digital learning in your school.

Highlights of this course:

  • Strategic alignment of digital learning with the School Self-Evaluation (SSE) process to enhance learning 
  • Practical approaches to effective infrastructure management   
  • Exploration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on education 
  • Navigating cyber security basics to ensure a safe digital environment for your school.

This course has been developed by Oide Technology in Education in partnership with the Irish Primary Principals’ Network (IPPN).

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, you should be able to:

  1. Identify effective strategies and resources to enable you to lead digital learning (DL) in your school.
  2. Align DL planning and the Digital Learning Framework (DLF) with the SSE process.
  3. Describe DL approaches that support the primary curriculum, with particular regard to inclusion.
  4. Review your school’s current digital technology infrastructure and identify areas for improvement.
  5. Describe effective cybersecurity practices relevant to your school.
  6. Gain a basic understanding of AI
  7. Highlight an area from the DLF Leadership and Management domain as a planned focus for the coming school year.
Course Content

The course starts by setting the context for digital learning in schools and identifying ways in which you can support and lead digital learning, including developing leadership capacity. It explores a range of topics, from the placement of digital learning in the new Primary Curriculum Framework, to how to effectively manage your school’s digital infrastructure and plan for improvement.

There are five modules in this course:

  1. Digital Learning Overview
  2. Embedding Digital Learning
  3. Digital Technology Infrastructure
  4. Cybersecurity Basics for Schools
  5. New technology (including AI) and next steps.

It contains a range of opportunities for reflection, including the opportunity to share practices and ideas with other schools and learn from others’ experiences.

A course certificate is provided upon completion of this course. The course is approved for EPV days.
