Exploring The Possibilities Of Materials Through 6 Strands Of Visual Arts Curriculum (Donegal ESC)

Reconnect. Create. Thrive.

Overview
This course is designed to empower teachers with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to plan visual arts lessons. This is a hands-on, practical based course where teachers use their own creativity in a relaxed environment.

Learning Outcomes
With the new curriculum in mind-Arts Education Specification, a blend of active / interactive activities and guided reflective practices will allow you to explore practical techniques. In this way you will experiment with all materials and possible artistic creations.

This course builds confidence in creativity and in turn supports teachers’ emotional health in a positive environment. No artistic experience is needed-just a willingness to explore and connect. Give yourself the time and tools to recharge, learn and thrive both personally and professionally to bring your best back to the classroom.

Facilitator - Margaret Rowland
Margaret Rowland is a primary teacher, artist, Visual Arts CPD tutor and creative practitioner. Margaret has taught all class bands and has a strong understanding of the materials and planning needed to suit all age groups regarding visual art facilitation. As a TAP and BLAST trained creative practitioner she has designed and developed residencies in many primary schools which foster creativity and develop collaboration skills / problem-solving abilities-(Teacher Artist Partnership/ Bringing Live Arts To Students & Teachers). The basic premise behind her work as an artist is freedom of expression and her vision is that all children are encouraged to express their own individuality through their creations. This is enhanced when skills are developed in line with class levels. With experience as an Associate with the Health and Wellbeing team of the Oide (Department of Education), Margaret is aware that involvement in arts practices enhances the lives of children and is strongly connected to their overall self-esteem development. Margaret understands that integration of SPHE and Visual Arts helps the overall holistic/social-skills development of children.
