VSO Ireland is a development organisation that works through volunteers in 24 countries across Africa, Asia and the Pacific. About a third of Irish VSO volunteers work on education programmes at community, district and national level – they train teachers, develop inspection plans, work up curricula and influence governments to improve schooling for children. Last year, VSO volunteers worked with 140 partners globally to train a total of 78,000 educators and reach 922,000 children and adults.
If you’re feeling stuck in a rut or would like a new challenge overseas, the benefits of volunteering are endless. Not only do you have the opportunity to contribute to sustainable change and better the lives of marginalised children, you can also benefit from skills exchange and leadership opportunities that may not be available to you in Ireland. It’s no wonder so many volunteers extend their placements or are keen to go abroad again with VSO soon after they return home.
All costs, including return flights, accommodation, medical insurance and vaccinations, are covered and an in-country volunteer allowance is also provided. The VSO Ireland team are there to support you each step of the way and ensure you have a truly life-changing experience.
