An Introduction to NUMICON
Numicon imagery uses patterns to represent each numeral, the patterns are structured so number relationships can be seen in a way not provided by written numerals, the imagery is used in Numicon’s inclusive small step teaching programme. Teachers find that pupils are motivated by Numicon and quickly develop positive attitudes to maths, resulting in raised achievement.
Aims of the training day:
· To give an overview of the Numicon teaching programme and the rationale.
· To demonstrate that Numicon is an inclusive approach to support typically developing children and those with special needs.
· To give participants practical experience with Numicon so they are confident in using it in their teaching of maths.
